Welcome to the Zeta Upsilon chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi  |  Troy University  |  Troy, Alabama

The Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity, was chartered at
Troy State University on May 18, 1974. Dr. John M. Long, Director of Bands, led the charge to start
a chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. Dr. Long, along with 34 other brothers started a colony. With the
guidance of the Big Brother Chapter, Gamma Nu (Florida State University), this chapter came into
existence.

Honorary brothers from the Zeta Upsilon Chapter include Dr. Paul Yoder, Sir Vivian Dunn,
and Dr. Jack Hawkins, Chancellor of the Troy University System. In 1979, Dr. John Malloy
Long received The Distinguished Service to Music Medal.

Mr. Robert W. Smith, previous Director of bands at Troy University, was presented the A. Frank
Martin award. Dr. Al Sergel, Vice President for Professional Relations, Kappa Kappa Psi, Presented
this award to Mr. Smith at the Southeastern U.S. Concert band clinic in February of 2000. With the
initiation of the Spring 2005 Candidate class, there are now over 300 brothers from the Zeta Upsilon
Chapter.
